CE marking

All UK licensees are currently required to serve intoxicating liquor in CE marked glasses, unless metered pumps, CE marked measures or bottles are used. Plastico can provide a large range of plastic drinks glasses which are marked the legally required CE logo. Our CE marked range includes: Flexy Glasses, polycarbonate wine glasses and both polystyrene and polycarbonate tumblers.

The regulations also require the capacity, the suppliers name, identification number of the notified body and the year of production to be featured on the product. The latter will be changed on the 1st January each year.

New Regulations

New regulations regarding the law on specified quantities, with effect from 1 October 2010 are as follows:

  • A new specified quantity of 2/3 pint for draught beer and cider will be introduced to give licensed premises a greater choice of sizes and to satisfy a demand for a quantity between 1/2 and 1 pint.
  • The existing specified quantities for fortified wines will be reduced to the smaller sizes of 50ml and 70ml to align the law with current trade practise.
  • Brandy will be required to be sold in specified quantities of 25ml or 35ml (or a multiple) which reflects existing trade practice and also brings the sale of brandy into line with the sale of other spirits.
  • Specified quantities will no longer apply to servings of wine below 75ml. This will allow for innovation in the sales of small glasses of wine as samples or as part of a wine flight. There is no requirement to sell by quantity below 75ml, but, should a seller choose to do so he should use one of the capacity measures set out in Part IV of Schedule 3 to the Weights and Measures Act 1985.
